Primary duties: A merchandiser is responsible for shipping records and other products from musical artists to stores for the purpose of sales. They assist with developing promotions strategies, work with distributors, communicate with retail stores about the placement of their artist's album and oversee manufacturing. Merchandisers may also complete some graphic design work on the album cover, t-shirts and other products that are available for sale.

2. Music agent
National average salary: $38,280 per year

Primary duties: A music agent works closely with musical artists to coordinate promotions, schedule tours and appearances and secure deals. They communicate with other professionals in the industry like venue managers, concert organizers, promoters and scouts to make sure the artist they represent gets adequate support and coverage and is able to share their talents with the public. Music agents also review and negotiate contracts for appearances to make sure they are in the best interest of their clients.

3. Publicist
National average salary: $44,512 per year

Primary duties: A publicist is responsible for sharing information and news about their clients with the press. They pitch news stories about their clients to media outlets, write press releases, create media kits and schedule interviews and appearances. A publicist may develop campaigns to enhance their client's public image through website, social media, digital media, television and radio content and may need to manage crisis communications. A publicist may work with an individual artist or serve as a press agent for multiple artists.

4. Promotions assistant

Primary duties: A promotions assistant works with the marketing department to support a musical artist or record label. They may set up a booth at a concert or event, hand out free materials, talk to concertgoers about the record label and its artists and work with sales to distribute albums and other artist-promoted products. Promotions assistants also write marketing materials, create sales reports, field phone calls from members of the media and strategize ways to generate income and attention for the musical artist.

5. Human resources associate

Primary duties: A human resources associate is responsible for performing HR tasks like onboarding new employees, writing an employee handbook, explaining company policies and performing payroll. They also post new job openings, review applications, schedule initial interviews and background checks, review a candidate's references and recommend candidates to hiring managers. Human resources associates also have a responsibility to maintain accurate and complete personnel files.

Primary duties: A market researcher collects data and performs analysis to understand more about market conditions so they can offer suggestions to record label executives and managers for how they can effectively promote an artist and their work. Primary duties: A creative consultant is responsible for creating content and different media and materials for artists. Creative consultants also perform some market research to make sure their work follows current trends and what may appeal to the public.

8. Marketing manager
National average salary: $67,808 per year

Primary duties: A marketing manager develops the communication between a record label and its artists and the general public. They create strategies to promote the company and musical artists, develop advertisements, measure results of their efforts, design and plan campaigns, partner with influencers, bloggers, celebrity figures and media members to share promotional messaging and publish content across various channels, including websites, social media, blogs, emails and podcasts. Marketing managers also manage a budget for their department, oversee professionals like graphic designers, content writers and videographers and keep up-to-date on marketing trends.

9. Contract administrator

Primary duties: A contract administrator is responsible for creating, reviewing and negotiating contracts.
